THE NEWLY CREATED MAP and Graphs

Before the map document is created and layer s are added, the data must be adequately "described", that is, haw the data are organized and presented. All of that called matadata. Common categories of spatial metadata content include:

Identification information: description of data set
Contact information: organizational contact to obtain the data
Transfer information: mechanisms by which the data can be asquired
Coordinate System information and map projection
Data Quality information: a set of measures buy which users can judge quality of data set
Feature/Attribute information - description of the information contained in the data set.

Distance units "called out". Usually the Map unuts and Distance units will be the same.

After setting the data properties we are readu to start adding layers FALE-ADD DATA from the map document menu (or add datautton from the menu bar). Save file in your folder.
