129. Can you capture without device control and if so how would you do it? Yes, we can. We can capture video by using the controls on the camcorder or other external device to search and play the source tape.

We can capture video by using controls on the video deck. The captured video opens in the Viewer as an untitled, unsaved clip. How do we do it -

1. Choose Log and Capture (File menu).
2. Use the deck’s controls to find your footage, and press the play button on the deck.
3. Click the Now button in Log and Capture window.
4. To stop recording, press the Esc Key.
5. Save the clip that you need by dragging it to the Browser or through Save As in File menu.

- The bin is in the browser.

1. Connect the video camera to the computer. The camera must be turned to VCR/VTR/playback
2. Start FCP
3. Click on File – Log and Capture (apple key I 8)

A new window will open with “VTR OK”.
To the right are some Capture Settings (Device Control have to be set to Firewire NTSC, Capture Input - at the default (DV NTSC 48MHz), scratch disk selected).
To play the tape, use the Play, Stop, Pause, Fast Forward and Rewind buttons below the Viewer.
4. Set clips (capture Audio only, Video only or Audio and Video, Channel 1&2)
5. Log Bin. Give the name of the folder where you want to capture video.

- We will use the pen as a mark, but the clip overlay button that display a pink line across each track can be dragged to increase or decrease the audio level.

- Yes, we can adjust audio levels in the viewer window. Double click on an audio clip in the timeline. The pen or P key can be used for keyframes. Adjusting the audio levels in the Viewer works similar as adjusting it directly in the timeline.

- You can store all of the values I need with brief description

149. Beside the auto-save function, how often and when should you manually save and what keys do you use? Can you also do this from a pull down menu and what would you select?

-If you carry about your work, you should use save function often enough. Use Apple+S or File pull down menu by selecting Save.

150. Why would you not want to continually hit the button to close down or start and what is the proper way to start up and shut down the computer?

-The proper way is through icons of Start menu.
